Folegandros Cultural Island Tour – Discover All Island with a Local Anthropologist

Join Poly's Guided Tour in Folegandros

🌹 Explore Folegandros beyond the postcard views with a cultural island tour led by a local anthropologist. Travel across the island, visit traditional villages, viewpoints and historical sites, and discover 3,000 years of Cycladic history, culture and everyday life through authentic stories and research.

Why This Tour is Different

Folegandros is much more than its beautiful landscapes and famous views. It is an island shaped by centuries of history, traditions and the resilience of its people.

This cultural island tour offers visitors the opportunity to explore the island in depth, discovering the places, stories and traditions that define its identity.

The tour begins with pick-up from your accommodation and continues across the island through scenic roads and traditional settlements. Along the way we stop at important locations such as Karavostasi, Livadi Beach, the traditional windmills, Ano Meria and Agkali Beach, allowing visitors to experience the different landscapes and communities of Folegandros.

One of the highlights of the tour is a visit to the Folk Museum of Ano Meria, where a traditional 19th-century house has been preserved exactly as it was used in the past. Here visitors can see original tools, clothing, household objects and learn how island families lived and worked in an isolated environment before modern technology and tourism.

Throughout the tour, we discuss the evolution of life on the island, from ancient Cycladic culture and medieval history to the social changes of the modern era.

Visitors also have time to stop for photographs and enjoy the island’s dramatic landscapes, while learning about the geography, traditions and cultural identity of Folegandros.

The tour is based on historical research and reliable sources, while also including stories from everyday island life that have been passed down through generations in Folegandros.

As a local guide with university studies in cultural history, I present the island’s history through a personal and engaging narrative that helps visitors understand not only the monuments, but also the lives of the people who lived here.

My personal connection with the island makes the experience even more authentic. My family has lived in Folegandros for generations, and my grandfather operated one of the traditional windmills that still stand in Chora today.

My goal is not only to show visitors the sights of the island, but also to share the history, culture and spirit of Folegandros.
